FAQs

We've all dreamed of having our own personal golf simulator. But what are the practical realities of space, budget and skills needed to make it happen? You're not the only one with questions - read on to find out the answers...

How much will a golf simulator cost?

A home simulator set up includes a number of different components - a launch monitor to track the ball, a laptop or PC running simulator software, a projector and screen for you to hit into, and then the enclosure, net and hitting mat to allow you to safely hit golf balls. The price of each of these components can vary by thousands of pounds, but as a general rule, an entry-level set up can be achieved for less than £10,000, while a top-of-the-range bespoke simulator could cost £50,000 or more.

How much space do I need in my house?

An indoor simulator requires enough space for you to safely make a full swing with a golf club, and for an enclosure with screen for you to hit into. Roughly speaking, that means a minimum of three metres of ceiling height, five metres of depth, and three metres width. Our expertise includes design and construction, and we can bring in architects and engineers if we need to get creative to configure an appropriate space - don't let your existing space limit your imagination!

Can I use the space for any other purposes?

We know that a golf simulator might be your dream, but we also know that other family members might have a say in how any spare space in your home might be utilised. We often create simulators as part of a family room that might include other amenities, and the screen, projector and PC can all be configured as part of a state-of-the-art multi-media cinema. And our simulators can be used for more than just golf - software options include a range of other games suitable for children of all ages.

Is a golf simulator portable? Can I use it outdoors?

The launch monitor is the engine-room of your golf simulator - it's the hardware that captures the impact of the club on the ball, and passes all the data captured to a PC or other device. Some launch monitors are designed to be portable so you can pick it up and take it to the driving range or even on to the course, where the data is presented either on a small screen or by connecting to a smartphone or tablet. Our expert team can help you understand the trade offs between accuracy, portability, usability and budget - get in touch for more information.

Do I need special clubs or balls?

All modern golf simulators work with regular golf clubs and golf balls. Some launch monitors use bespoke markings on the golf ball to enhance the accuracy of their ball tracking - these are regular golf balls, and will be supplied with the launch monitor if that's part of the right solution for your project.

What are the ongoing service / maintenance costs?

Most simulators include an annual or monthly software subscription, which includes access to the latest golf courses, games and other features. A properly set-up home simulator will require minimal ongoing service once it's been calibrated, and our projects include training and post-sales support to make sure you're making the most of your home simulator.

Will playing on a simulator help improve my swing?

A golf simulator will provide you with a wealth of data points for every single swing that you make. Information like ball speed or launch angle can help you understand the interaction between your swing and the golf ball, and we find that customers with a home simulator set up often improve simply because it's more convenient for them to practice more efficiently. Our team will help you understand what this data means, but a PGA professional will be best placed to help develop an improvement plan that covers all the elements that make up an effective golf game.
